Virtual Escape Room is a new virtual job market in Ireland which allows employers to offer virtual work-life balance.
The company, which started in 2017, says that it has already helped up to 3,000 people to find work through this virtual experience.
“It’s great to see that employers in Ireland are taking this opportunity to look at the possibilities of using this new medium of work in the way that we’ve been talking about it in the past, so that we can better connect with the job seekers that we are trying to reach,” said Claire McGeough, Vice President and Head of Product for Virtual Escape, in a statement.
“Employers are looking to hire people who are looking for new challenges and who are prepared to work hard in a challenging environment, with the flexibility that is a great asset.”
Virtual Escape offers job fairs across the country for job seekers.
It allows employees to meet face-to-face with other job seekers, and to share personal information, such as a resume and cover letter.
The job fair will run from October 7 to October 13 and will cost €6.80.
Job seekers are required to apply online at www.virtualescape.ie, by post on Facebook or by phone.
Virtual Escape is now available in a number of countries including the US, Canada, Japan, Mexico, France, Italy, UK, Germany, Canada and the US Virgin Islands.
Virtual escape rooms have been around for years but they have been gaining popularity since 2015, with a number companies including the company offering them to potential job seekers in an effort to get them to apply.
In the UK, Jobseekers UK launched its virtual escape rooms in 2017 and it has since expanded into the US.
It has been estimated that over 4 million people use the sites to find a job, with Jobseekers claiming that the majority of the jobs available on its site come from employers seeking jobseekers.
“The virtual escape is a very important tool for jobseekers and employers to meet each other in a way that is positive, safe and respectful,” said Ms McGeoug.
Jobseekers in Ireland were able to apply for the virtual escape as early as last year, with companies including Jobseekers and Jobseeker’s UK offering the service until December 31.
Jobsearer’s UK is offering job seekers a voucher for €15 for using their virtual escape.
In 2017, Jobsearers UK said that the number of jobseekers using the service was up 20 per cent compared to 2016, with an estimated 9,000 jobseekers applying for jobs through the service.
Job Seekers UK’s CEO, Fiona McGowan, said that it was important for the company to ensure that people were aware of the new technology and that it took an active role in educating job seekers on the new service.
“Jobseekers are often the first to say ‘I want to use this, what are the benefits and how can I get started?'”
Ms McGowan said.
Job seeker’s UK said it has now opened an application process for virtual escape, which will allow people to apply and start using their new service immediately.
Jobseekers UK said the aim is to provide jobseekers with a more professional, flexible and secure workplace, which it believes will create an increase in job opportunities.
“We know that employers want to have a professional relationship with jobseekers, whether that’s through job opportunities on the platform or other job opportunities they can access on their own,” Ms McGahan said.
“This has been the case for the past five years, and we believe that virtual escape will continue to play an important role in this transition.”
Jobseekers United, a coalition of the Irish Jobseekers Alliance, Jobcentre Plus and Job Centre Plus, welcomed the news.
“Ireland has the world’s highest rate of joblessness and this virtual escape offers jobseekers an important way to work with an employer who is looking to employ them,” said Michelle Farr, Vice Chair of the Association.
“Virtual escape has proven to be the right way to offer a job in Ireland, and it is great that Jobseekers are now looking to explore this new technology.”
Jobseachers UK is currently working on expanding its virtual workplace to offer more job opportunities to job seekers including a job search platform for jobless people.
“There are a number jobs in Ireland that require a degree or further education and many more jobs require that someone has a full-time job,” Ms McGowan said, adding that the virtual environment would provide more flexibility to jobseekers who are seeking employment.
“People need the opportunity to be self-employed and that can only be achieved by creating an environment where people feel safe to be themselves, to express their creativity and to have the freedom to work on their passions,” Ms Farr said.
